Community Involvment
Narayan never lacked the intelligence to succeed—he lacked stability. Carrying wounds from childhood trauma, he spent years making destructive choices, turning to drugs and cycling in and out of incarceration. He developed skills along the way, working in surveying and helping lay out high-rise buildings downtown, but the pain in his life continued to follow him. After losing his wife in a tragic accident, Narayan became homeless and walked into an emergency room in Nashville with a guitar, a backpack, and last of his belongings. A referral through Goodwill Career Solutions led him to Clarksville, where he found support, community, and the Persevere program. When he interviewed with Stacey Brooks and recognized a shared story of survival and redemption, he knew he had found the right place.
Today, Narayan is Persevere’s Project Management Instructor. He teaches students technical project management skills while also helping them believe they belong in the room. His journey shows that rock bottom can become the starting point for a new life.
