How long have you worked for Persevere?
Since December 2022

Where are you originally from?
Albany, KY

What do you love most about your job?
I love the idea that in some small way I may have a small part of changing someone’s life forever. Helping someone see the positive things in their life has been part of my life for a long time. Now I get paid to do something I love. I have always felt attracted to helping someone who just needs to be pushed over the finish line.

Why Persevere?
As soon as I saw some information on Persevere I felt attracted to the company. I have had the opportunity to speak to men’s groups from time to time and one of the last talks I gave the title of it was Perseverance. I took that as a positive and applied.

What did you want to be when you were a kid?
This is kind of hard for me because I changed ideas many times. I went from wanting to be a cowboy, to a professional motorcycle racer and many more in between.

Looking back on your life, who or what makes you instantly light up?
Before I moved into the non-profit world I spent 27 years in public education. I was a teacher, assistant principal, and principal. I have several success stories I could talk about, but one in particular give’s me great joy. As assistant principal I had one student that frustrated me to no end. I spent many hours with this kid in my office trying to motivate him. He eventually graduated. Then one day during the summer after he graduated he called me, and wanted to know if I would write him a reference letter to get into college. Of course I did, and last time I spoke to him he was studying for the bar exam to be a lawyer with a 4.0 GPA. I guess some of it made sense.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given?
The best piece of advice I have ever been give is ” find something you love to do and do it for the rest of your life”. That was given to me by my uncle when I graduated high school.

Describe your perfect day.
My perfect day is easy to describe. Any day that I am alive is a perfect day.

What are you most proud of about yourself?
This is a hard question for me to answer, because I don’t feel completely satisfied with anything I have accomplished.

Favorite Movie or TV show?
Gone in 60 seconds is my favorite movie.

What is something about you that would surprise us?
In 2014 I was involved in a motorcycle accident. I spent 21 days in a medically induced coma. To date I have had 22 different surgeries. Today I am also working on becoming a life coach who specializes in trauma recovery.
